سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ
Dua for Travelling – Transliteration In Arabic:
Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana haza wa ma kunna lahu muqrineen, wa inna ila rabbina lamunqaliboon
Dua for Travelling – Translation In English
Glory be to Him who has made this (means of transport) subservient to us, and we could never have accomplished this (by ourselves). And surely, to our Lord, we shall return.
Explanation
This dua expresses gratitude, humility, and dependence on Allah whenever a believer begins a journey. It reminds us that all forms of transport, whether animal, car, plane, or ship, are blessings made possible only by Allah’s power.
By reciting this dua before traveling, a Muslim acknowledges that no journey is successful without Allah’s will and protection. It cultivates mindfulness, patience, and a sense of trust (tawakkul) in Allah throughout the journey.
It is also Sunnah to say “Allahu Akbar” three times after reciting this dua and then pray for safety, ease, and return with goodness.
Incident from Sunnah
It is narrated that when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would mount his riding animal and start his journey, he would say this dua, followed by Allahu Akbar three times and then supplicate:
“O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety in this journey, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1342)
This shows the Prophet’s ﷺ deep consciousness of Allah even in daily activities like traveling. His example encourages Muslims to travel with remembrance, patience, and gratitude, ensuring the journey becomes both safe and spiritually rewarding.
