Bismillahi, tawakkaltu ‘alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

Translation:

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power nor might except with Allah.

Dua After Leaving the House – Explanation:

This beautiful dua teaches trust (tawakkul) and dependence on Allah in every action. As a believer steps out into the world, reciting this dua brings reassurance that success, safety, and provision all come by Allah’s permission.

It protects one from harm, misguidance, and arrogance and fills the heart with humility and confidence that Allah is the ultimate Guardian (Al-Hafiz). Starting any journey or task with this remembrance ensures barakah (blessing) and divine protection throughout the day.

Incident from Sunnah:

It is narrated that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“When a man leaves his house and says: ‘Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah,’ it is said to him: ‘You are guided, defended, and protected,’ and the devils turn away from him.”
(Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith 5095)

This Hadith highlights the power of remembrance (zikr), that a few words said with sincerity can guard a believer from unseen harm and grant spiritual security while stepping into the world.
