غُفْرَانَكَ، اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِي أَذْهَبَ عَنِّي الْأَذَى وَعَافَانِي
Transliteration:
Ghufranaka, alhamdu lillāhil-ladhī adh-haba ‘annī al-adha wa ‘āfānī
Translation:
“I seek Your forgiveness. All praise is for Allah who removed harm from me and granted me wellbeing.”
Explanation of Dua After Leaving the Toilet:
This dua is a reminder of Allah’s mercy in the smallest daily acts, even something as simple as relieving oneself.
By saying “Ghufranaka”, we acknowledge that:
- Our body functions only by Allah’s permission
- We are constantly in need of His forgiveness
- Health and comfort are blessings we take for granted
The words “who removed harm from me and granted me wellbeing” highlight that even the ability to remove waste safely is a sign of divine care. Many people suffer from illnesses that make this basic act painful, so this dua teaches gratitude, humility, and awareness of Allah’s favors.
Through this simple remembrance, the believer stays connected to Allah throughout the day, even in the most private moments.
Dua After Leaving the Toilet – Incident from Sunnah:
It is narrated that when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would leave the toilet, he would say “Ghufranaka.”
(Sunan Abi Dawood – Hasan)
Some scholars mention the longer wording to express gratitude for removed harm and restored comfort, a meaning fully aligned with Islamic teachings on cleanliness and health.
