اللّٰهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Allahummaf-taḥ li abwāba raḥmatik

O Allah! Open the doors of Your mercy for me.

Explanation of Dua While Entering Masjid

When a believer enters the mosque, they leave behind worldly distractions and step into a place of peace, worship, and closeness to Allah. This dua teaches humility and reminds us that the greatest blessing inside the masjid is Allah’s mercy, not just the physical act of prayer.

By reciting this dua before entering the mosque, the heart becomes focused, the intention becomes pure, and the believer seeks Allah’s compassion before beginning worship. It helps develop respect for the masjid and prepares the mind for salah, Quran recitation, and dhikr.

The masjid is the house of Allah — entering it with this dua brings barakah, protection from Shaytan, and spiritual comfort.

Sunnah Reference for Dua When Entering Masjid

It is narrated that when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ entered the mosque, he would recite this same dua:

“O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 713)

This hadith demonstrates that the Prophet ﷺ approached the masjid with deep humility and longing for Allah’s mercy — teaching us to do the same every time we step inside.
